Plundering the People

"The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is... legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay ... If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system."
-- Frederic Bastiat
(1801-1850) French economist, statesman, and author. He did most of his writing during the years just before -- and immediately following -- the French Revolution of February 1848

  1. It is interesting to me that once a person strictly obeys the Constitution, other issues somehow become simpler. We as America did not go so far as other countries to adopt socialism or communism, but we did veer from our founding. We have veered so much in the last century that the ideas of the Constitution sound foreign to the general American populace. It is therefore not an easy shift to return to our roots, but if our nation is to prosper it is necessary.
